Edward John (E.J.) Hughes (Canadian 1913-2007)

Freighter at Dock, Crofton, B.C.
oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left "E.J. Hughes 1980"; inscription on back by E.J. Hughes reads:
“Ship at a Wharf, Crofton, B.C.” E.J. Hughes 1980
There is a “Visitors’ Viewpoint” at the pulp mill and loading wharves at Crofton, on Vancouver Island, where the public can drive in and park cars and have a fine view of as many as three deep-sea freighters at a time loading lumber, etc., at the wharves. The views can be seen from the cars, which is most welcome on a rainy day. The distant land mass is Salt Spring Island, largest of the Gulf Islands.
