The Kootenay River East of Cranbrook 1977

oil on canvas, signed and dated lower left "E.J. Hughes 1977"; inscription on back by E.J. Hughes reads:

“The Kootenay River, East of Cranbrook.” E.J. Hughes. May, 1977. In the summer of 1967, my wife Fern and I stayed for a week at a motel in Cranbrook, B.C., while I sketched the nearby scenery. One day, while driving east towards Fernie, B.C., I noticed a valley view which was very sketchable. There was, fortunately, a wide place to pull off the highway, so I was able to make a pencil sketch of the subject, with colour written in from which I just now produced the above painting.
