Fine 18th century silver etui tapered case with leather cover, the lid decorated with rococo decoration and secured by a sprung hinge and a push button on the side. Contains original fittings: Hanoverian snuff spoon, two prong fork and small knife which screw into two handles with lids (the smaller storing inside the larger handle), bodkin, tweezers, two-piece pen with nib, and double ivory writing tablet, the base with holes for three pins, interior with one piece missing. English or Continental, apparently unmarked, second half of the 18th century.
Etui were small ornamental cases fitted with miniature implements and personal items for use by gentlemen or women for travelling, medical use, or sewing. They were finely crafted using precious materials such as gold, silver, ivory, tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, and leather, etc.
