This rare painting depicts depicts the indigenous workers’ camp behind the Sea Island Cannery in 1892. The Sea Island Cannery was established on Swishwash Island near Steveston by Alexander Ewen and Daniel Munn. Originally called the Bon Accord Cannery, the name was changed to avoid confusion with the other Bon Accord Cannery at Port Mann on the Fraser River. Sea Island Cannery was acquired by the BC Packers Association in 1902.
