Fall of the Leaf was the first of Sybil Andrews' linocuts that resembled more a landscape then a study of labour or modernity. It was followed in the next two years with two additional trees in motion studies with Storm 1935, and Tumulus 1936.

Provenance: Laubach's Art Studio label verso. Laubach's Art Studio was active in Regina in the early 1910s, advertising "The best Artists at moderate prices" as early as 1911. Frank Laubach served with James Henderson on the Art Committee of the Regina Society for the Advancement of Art, Literature and Science around 1913-1915. In 1914 the committee organized what was termed Regina's first exhibition of work only by local artists. Among the 130 artworks exhibited were several by James Henderson, and Frank Laubach presented a lecture at the exhibition.

Provenance: By descent through the family to the present owner Isabella Buchanan was the first wife of William Augustus Baldwin (1808-1883), the brother of Robert Baldwin (1804-1858) who with Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine led the first responsible ministry in Canada prior to Confederation and was instrumental in setting up modern municipal government and the jury system in Canada. William Baldwin lived on a family farm between Spadina and Avenue Road, Toronto. He transformed this family property into valuable real estate in which is now downtown Toronto.

Burnham Beeches is a 375 hectare site of Special Scientific Interest and a National Nature reserve. It was once Le Parc Burn, a royal deer-hunting park belonging to Richard, The Earl of Cornwall, in the 13th century. Since the 19th century, the southern half has been owned by the Corporation of London and open to the public. It is possibly best know today as a popular film site having been used for Harry Potter, Robin Hood, The Princess Bride, Goldfinger, and many other movies. Historically, it was a popular site for artists in the late 19th century.
